Good Hope has roots deep in the heart of the Methodist Movement in America. On August 2, 1848 (as documented at the Chesapeake Courthouse) the property on which the church presently stands was given to the church by Laban N. Hall and Israel Foreman. The trustees of "the Methodist Protestant Church at Good Hope" were John F. Foreman, Washington Hall, and Laban N. Hall. Other records indicate a membership of one-hundred eleven persons twenty-one years of age or over.
